NiobiumNiobium and tantalum commonly occur together in the iron -containing minerals columbite (FeNb2O6) and tantalite (FeTa2O6). Niobium with tantalum, manganese and iron form the oxides manganocolumbite and manganotantalite. Niobium is found in the minerals aeschynite, euxenite and samarskite. Niobium is found with tantalum and aluminum in the oxide mineral simpsonite. Niobium is found with tantalum, manganese and iron in the oxide mineral tapiolite. Niobium finds use as a constituent of alloy steels. Niobium finds important application as a superconductor, particularly in combination with tin.
